august '18: recap #2
August playlist carries on with a summary of the best we've showed during this hot few days. We've kept hearing brazilian sounds from other times: Grupo Controle Digital's "A Festa É Nossa" was featured in a compilation album from Soundway Records and it is, in fact, a hit that never was.
We were reminded by Yadava that "Here We Go" from Minnie Ripperton is one of the best soul songs ever made. We got emotional, man. The track was not on spotify, so we have to make a little stop to dance in the moonlight.
And sounds got deeper. Drums got faster. The broken beat infused sounds of Woolymammoth - "Aperture in Meditation, Time" is such a big surprise - probably very influenced by the vision of Kaidi Tatham, still making smooth night bangers. And deeper. Frits Wentink has been making unforgettable house tracks - the third and final instalment in Frits' Two Bar House Music & Chord Stuff series sees him continue to showcase his distinct style of lo-fi, wonky house. Both quirky & unconventional, yet instantly endearing in the same breath. "Theme 10" is his latest release.
