doug carn, ali shaheed muhammad, adrian younge: jazz is dead 005
The fifth installment of the Jazz Is Dead series welcomes the legendary jazz pianist Doug Carn, placing his unique and timeless art within the context of a musical culture that has always taken cues from his 70s classics. Curated by Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Adrian Younge, this series has presented some of the biggest heroes in the jazz scene from that time, providing them with ideas that naturally sit with hip-hop-funk-noir lovers too. Jazz Is Dead 005 with Doug Carn follows other records made in collaboration with Azymuth, Marcos Valle and Roy Ayers. It has been a huge pleasure so far and there’s more to come in 2021.
Carn is the musical mind that created legendary albums like Infant Eyes and Adam's Apple, and this project does not fail to amaze the fans of that era in Carn’s career. With the Younge/Muhammad/JID trademark, Jazz Is Dead 005 is perfectly worthy of comparison to Carn's past work but which could only have been made right now. A hero to both Muhammad and Younge, Carn was more than an inspiration in their respective careers. His compositional and improvisational integrity, presented here, remains indisputable. Available in vinyl, CD and Digital through Bandcamp.
