See this content in the original post

Legendary US saxophonist Gary Bartz meets the UK spiritual jazz collective Maisha for Night Dreamer’s Direct-To-Disc Session, dropping by the end of this week. The relationship between one of the greatest names in jazz and the exciting British group began a couple of years ago, when bot acts collaborated in Gilles Peterson’s We Out Here festival. Their chemistry was rich and instantaneous, certainly a two-way street, with the young musicians reinvigorating the legend’s performance.

Recorded in just one take, at Haarlem’s Artone Studio, very close to Amsterdam, the sessions capture the vitality of their collaboration. Whilst Bartz and Maisha reinvent classic Bartz compositions “Uhuru Sasa” and “Dr Follows Dance”, extending the pieces into long piece improvised grooves, their recording session gave birth to three brand new joint compositions, written the very same day. This record is indeed special, having allowed two different schools of jazz to meet and create. A meeting of incredible talents, generations, minds in an unique Direct-To-Disc Session. This invaluable work will be available on vinyl, via Night Dreamer Recordings, a London x Haarlem based record label specialized in this very interesting format.
