katermurr: warm night ep

See this content in the original post

We’ve been sharing, somehow in a obsessive way, GLBDOM’s releases over the past year. Retromigration, Brooklyn Baby, Joint4Nine or Immersif have produced some of our favorite deep house music in the 2020/21 season. Exploring classic house sondwaves, the Russian label has released a few records under the GLBDOM Classic stamp and we had to write about Katermurr’s Warm Night EP, which dropped today. Going deep, way deep, into the roots of house music, this young talent from Switzerland provides a strong four-track record, with three original productions and a remix by DJ MERCI.

Warm Night starts with “It Ain’t What You Got", a rough jackin’ house track with organ stabs, complemented by a sample of a Moodymann interview, in which he spits his inner beliefs about music. This a scenic starting point in the EP, exposing the ethos behind Katermurr’s process. The title-track "Warm Night”, follows with upfiting textures, combining deep chords and a driving rhythm section. It creates the image of a hazy summer night in the city, swirling neon lights and people drinking in bars. "Deeper Gruv" takes us to New York City in the late 80’s, melding deep chords with a jackin’ bass line reminiscing of that atmosphere of classic New York House. DJ MERCI closes the EP with a loungy, jazzy and elegant remix of “It Ain’t What You Got". Available via Bandcamp, Warm Night is the party record we needed for this season.
