Around this time last year Nick Walters released his first album on 22a, Awakening, alongside The Paradox Ensemble. He returns with his second project for the label - a free and spiritual journey into avant-garde jazz, named Active Imagination. Joining a talented group musicians for a day in the studio, Nick Walters leads with his trumpet on a session with minimal rehearsal, to collectively experiment and improvise in the moment.

All songs in Active Imagination are written and arranged by Walters, giving space to the six musicians that join him the space for their distinctive and individual voices, creating a united force of spiritual, free-form jazz. The five compositions are based on different modes, each of them with an unique flavour. His playing with West African fusion bands and experiences around the world can be felt in each of the tracks, capturing the bandleader influences in an one off session. Available on vinyl, via 22a, Active Imagination will further cement Walters’ position as one of the most sought after and respected musicians in the UK jazz scene.
