paul grant: waves
Paul Grant caught our attention last year, by the time his sophomore album entitled Beginnings was coming out. We went back and listened to his first project, Moments, and we kept his name and his smooth productions close to us. Grant is a very talented multi-instrumentalist/producer from California now releasing his third solo album via DeepMatter Records: Waves is comprised by instrumental 15 tracks, fusing effortlessly influences from the worlds of hip hop, jazz and r&b.
Having worked with talented artists, including Kiefer, Braxton Cook and Emmavie, and as session musician, Grant cements his name with, arguably, his strongest album yet. Waves is incredibly well polished, groovy and focused - an album that makes even more sense listening to it without pauses, from A to Z. Apart from the contributions by guest artists Amy Ahn and Morgan Burrs on two songs, everything in Waves is imagined, performed and produced by Paul Grant. With a ‘little’ help by J Dilla’s heritage… Released last friday by DeepMatter Records, Waves is available via Bandcamp.
