quiet dawn: movements

The one and only First Word Records welcomes back the Parisian multi-instrumentalist Will Galland for another Quiet Dawn project, presenting the brilliant Movements EP. Galland has been contributing to the First Word catalog with many quality releases since late 2014 and this project is, in a way, a product of that connection between artist and label. After being heavily inspired by First Word's infamous 14th birthday party at Total Refreshment Centre, where Quiet Dawn played alongside label-mates such as Kaidi Tatham and Children of Zeus, Movements is the result of an outstanding exploration of the realms of broken beat and nu jazz.

This six-track EP encompasses a series of deeply percussive grooves and squelchy synths, being a predominantly instrumental affair, though featuring the supremely soulful vocals of Oliver Night. Largely influenced by the bruk sounds hailing from West London, Quiet Dawn is able to fit vibes that touch on 70's jazz, funk, disco, latin & African music. With that palette of colours, the Parisian develops a free-flowing record that feels instinctive and intellectually provoking - working equally well for dancers as it does for urban paces. The pleasure felt by Galland whilst creating Movements is directly express into the speakers and vibing with it is almost innevitable. Available in vinyl, this is one of those records that we’ll be listening for years.
