reekee: sunshine
Reekee (real name Riccardo Masi) keeps delivering high-class, intellectual moments for our mind and soul with his latest release that came out through Sistrum Recordings Detroit a few days ago. Sunshine is composed by four glorious tracks that sit in the intersection of Detroit-influenced deep house, broken beat and electronic jazz. Another dime dropping Patrice Scott’s infamous imprint that does not fail in providing abstract, quality music that deviates from the norm.
The EP kicks off with the title-track setting the emotions up high with a mesmerizing keys spraying us with a beautiful feeling. “Livin’” is a direct call to London with that bruk quality creating a funky conversation with the soulful chords. Flipping to the B Side, “Never As It Seems” creates a moment of shared complicity between producer and audience like few are capable. It’s an emotional piece that we have to highlight below. Closing the EP, “In This Place” is a downbeat cinematic moment of depth and fulfillment. Available on vinyl, Sunshine is a stellar record from one of the most talented producers in the game.
