rick wade: deep incantations trilogy vol. 1
Art Is The Place, a new Berlin-based arts collective launches its label with a masterclass in house music from Detroit icon Rick Wade. Deep Incantations Trilogy Vol. 1 showcases Wade's emotionally refined and heartfelt approach to the genre, reaffirming his status as a true forefather of the Detroit house sound. From his own Harmonie Park imprint and releases like "Detroit Noir," Wade's extensive back catalog is a treasure trove of house excellence, a testament to his unique musical journey. The collaboration between Art Is The Place and Wade originated through the "Birth of Techno" club night at Tresor, part of the "From Detroit nach Berlin" exhibition, which highlighted the African American influence on techno's history and the importance of Detroit producers.
Deep Incantations Trilogy Vol. 1 opens with the aptly named "Groove Tool," a track built on a rock-solid rhythm, soaring synth pads, twinkling piano notes, and elegant horns. "Pimp Prophecy" follows, increasing the tempo while retaining the dreamy melodic waves of the opener, with soft chords swimming in the deep alongside atmospheric synths and delicate rhythms. "Jazzy Tears" fills it up with a filtered vocal sample and evolving rhythmic palette, culminating in a luscious blend of emotive features and a lead chord line primed for euphoric moments. The EP concludes with "Ooo Ahh," revolving around a playful vocal sample and drawing in cheerful horns and expressive piano notes. From late-night burners to early morning sunrise vibes, Deep Incantations Trilogy Vol. 1 demonstrates Wade's enduring musical spirit. Available on vinyl.
