Phuture Shock Musik continues its reign of soulful dubplate pressure with the Deep Within EP, a collaborative effort that was in the making for roughly 18 months from Bristol's soulful house don Sean McCabe and Brussels-based rising star Rosie From The Block. Since joining Phuture Shock Musik, Rosie has been progressively involved in the (very interesting) Bristol scene, which kind of ends up resulting in this productive partnership with McCabe. It’s also a testament to the vibrant music community in Bristol and the opportunities it provides for talented artists to connect and create together.
Deep Within EP showcases the artists' talents and knowledge in blending house, broken beat, nu-soul, RnB or boogie. The conscious lyricism throughout the EP explores themes of self-reflection and spirituality, adding depth and meaning to the music. "Rise Above," the EP's opener, is a jaunty bruk soul cut with an uplifting message. "Wake Up" follows with its stuttering rhythms and lyrical exploration of accountability. The B-side's "Water" offers a deep house escape with its soulful vocals, dreamy synths, and jazzy Rhodes chords and a top-class Dub version of “Rise Above”.
