Recorded over a 2 day session at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, Ironside is Ruby Rushton’s 4th studio album and probably their most complete work to date. The Tenderlonious-led jazz quartet, continues to push boundaries, and lead the way, with this new genre defying record, released through 22a. As one of the main acts responsible for the jazz resurgence in London, the album title refers to their journey so far - back in 2011, when the first Ruby Ruston album (Two For Joy) was recorded, jazz was not at the front of the musical movement hailing from the city. They sensed a change, deeply connected to their musical virtuosity.

The quartet’s fresh, high energy sound is rooted in the spiritual concepts of John Coltrane and Yusef Lateef, paying homage to The Headhunters and Weather Report heyday, whilst still adopting influences from hip hop, afrobeat and the UK underground culture. Following the critically acclaimed Trudi’s Songbook, Ironside is another great recording that continues to prove that Tenderlonious and his Ruby Rushton quartet are one of the leading and most forward-thinking bands currently coming out of London’s thriving jazz scene.
