swindle: no more normal
No More Normal, coming out next friday, is Swindle’s highly awaited album, released by the magnificent Brownswood Recordings. His artistry reaches a superb level, grasping the different sides of the vivid UK music scene. The album marks the next step in the London-raised producer’s expanded vision for his music. It fuses different disciplines together in new and electrifying ways, connecting a group of peers sharing a creative common ground. The cast on Swindle’s impressive new story is kind of a all-star team, with picks like Andrew Ashong, Kojey Radical, Yussef Dayes, Nubya Garcia, Daley or Kiko Bun.
In Swindle’s words No More Normal “it’s jazz influenced as much as it is grime influenced. It’s London influenced as much as it is LA influenced.” Following his 2013 debut LP Long Live The Jazz and 2015’s Peace, Love & Music, the new project is Swindle’s definite step towards a mainstream audience. Not because his music became more simple. Quite the opposite, he is able to attain in a mature way the different genres that make up the eccentric London character, never losing a cohesive style. His own. It was inevitable.
The single “Coming Home,” with poet/rapper/actor/singer Kojey Radical, has been playlisted across the BBC’s music channels, and the whole album will sound as a vivid portrait of the contemporary London funk. Through Brownswood Recordings, the independent record label founded by DJ, record collector and broadcaster Gilles Peterson, No More Normal will be available for purchase on the 25th of January. It is a piece to collect and appreciate for a long time.
