syrup: rosy lee
Consisting of MC Turt, pianist and singer C.Tappin and beatmaker Twit One, Syrup is a new project which first LP comes out tomorrow via Melting Pot Music. Rosy Lee, blending each of the element’s influences and output from past projects, is an hip hop album leaning towards jazz and soul music, rooted in the tradition of collectives like Native Tongues and Soulquarians or, as they often describe it, “cool bap“.
This trio has been widely covered here for a couple of years. Based in London Turt and his brother Slim are the Summers Sons and C.Tappin is a frequent collaborator, having released high-karat-stuff solo too. Twit One, based in Cologne, is part of a small group of pioneering producers, who during the 2010s lay the foundation for the European beat-scene as we know it today. Back in 2015 the three of them cross paths in Bristol, collaborating in each other’s projects since then. Rosy Lee plays with an unstoppable flow, connecting talented people beyond national borders, language and tradition - but based in the same ground of Afro-American culture and the same Dilla-Madlib axis of influence. Available in vinyl via Melting Pot Music.
