tamil rogeon: son of nyx

See this content in the original post

Tamil Rogeon is an Australian viola player, arranger & conductor known for his orchestral electronic band The Raah Project, the 2017 '24 Hours in Lapa' orchestral Brazilian project and for being integral to the excellent Bermuda Harvey Sutherland Ensemble. Son of Nyx is his new project released by London-based imprint Soul Bank Music. It counts with names that we came to appreciate over the past years, such as Allysha Joy and Jace XL, and others that we are glad to explore like Rita Satch and Ladi Tiaryn Griggs. They add their musicianship to Tamil’s creative work that is brewed from a variety of influences - appealing beyond the confines of the jazz world.

Described as a modal viola jazz record, Son Of Nyx is an intimate affair, with ethereal sounds that hint at the electronic jazz fusion music of the 70's and early 80's. Nonetheless we’re listening to a contemporary work, encompassing a swirling prism of exploratory modal jazz laced with Tamil’s viola playing, analogue synth lines and Afro-latin percussion. The album is due to come out on vinyl on the 5th of February, but this friday we’re delighted to also present the release of a prologue project. Son Of Nyx - Remixed & Live showcases versions interpreted by Samplogy, Prequel and Rebecca Vasmant. It also includes two live versions of tracks included in the studio release, making this project even more interesting for the jazz aficionados. Tamil Rogeon leads this mesmerizing album that deserves full attention.
