various artists: they're energised
They’re Energised is an all-new compilation record curated by Allysha Joy and the CoOp Presents crew. The connection was made a while back, when Allysha was invited to host one of CoOp’s celebrated guest mixes, and presented the London-based collective some heavy unreleased and unmastered "Australian" broken sounds. If you follow this platform you might already know some of the artists showcased: Horatio Luna, Close Counters, Lanu or Setwun, just to name a few. Her connections and, more importantly, musical instincts flourish naturally and the corridor London - Melbourne finally deserved a full blow album.
CoOp’s heads, legendary men in the London bruk scene Alex Phountzi and IG Culture, asked her to curate what later became They’re Energised. Over 14 tracks, Allysha Joy reaches deep within the melting pot of Australian electronic jazz music scene, influenced by London’s broken beat and contemporary rhythms. Tracks from Sampology, Maia, Silentjay & Lanu, Ziggy Zeitgeist & CC Dance Orchestra are paired up with others from the ever flowing wave of good vibe that a significant number of Australian and Kiwi producers keep providing. They’re Energised is absolutely filled with highlights.
The compilation flows effortlessly from A to Z. A testament to the broken beat undercurrent that runs within the jazz and dance music scene down-under.They're Energised is available on vinyl, for the collectors - connecting a scene of deeply talented and inspired musicians, collectively shaping the new wave of uniquely Australian bruk and broken beat music. Big up to the unbelievable talent of Allysha Joy and the legendary vision of the CoOp Presents crew.
CoOp Presents was launched in 2018 by IG Culture and Alex Phountzi to create a platform for new bruk talent in London and beyond. The label continues in the spirit of the original West London broken beat movement to support forward-thinking music and artists.
