archermano: psalms ep
Francisco Espregueira
Archermano emerges from dungeons to rooftops to deliver his debut entitled Psalms EP, the first record released by our own label O Sótão Records. Hailing from Porto, techno music maniac Tomás Archer and the creator of the O Sótão platform Francisco Esp. have been expanding their love for electronic and progressive music into production duties. Jam sessions that had no particular intention eventually resulted in this project that is deeply inspired in Detroit’s house and techno.
Psalms EP was mostly recorded live, exploring ideas previously expressed in the sessions curated by Tomás and Francisco in the attic where the website O Sótão was born. On the A-side, “Pharrel’s Psalm” is a journey of almost 8 minutes into the depths of Archermano’s spirit. Energetic percussion and meditative keys lead us through Pharrel’s contemplations on music. “Samurai Thoughts” follows, blending two moments of pure deepness, of pure madness, that same pureness that will make your feet stomp and your head nod. Scenes from Kurosowa’s “Yojimbo” play in the background for further immersion.
On the flip, “Profundo Wu” is a more intricate composition that unfolds over dark textures, mixing trip-hop melodies with minimal techno and deep house elements, while Mesquita takes care of the bass. “Nasty’s Psalm” closes the EP, picking up on “Pharrel’s Psalm” chords and flipping them into a blast of energy for the club. It’s one for the true party-people.
From dungeons to rooftops grooving in the attic with Archermano and his exciting debut EP. Psalms is a club craving project. Available digitally on Bandcamp and in the usual platforms.
