bernardo mota: notivago
Francisco Espregueira
It’s been a year since we talked about Bernardo Mota’s music, back when we covered the Away EP. During 2023 he continued delivering deep productions on labels such as Rewind Ltd, Berlin House Music or Diversity Collective. It’s with a lot of pleasure that we come back from our holiday with his best and most complete work to date: Notivago. In nine tracks, Mota invites us to escape the ordinary and embrace his renewed perspectives on disco jazz influenced deep house. Predominantly crafted with the remarkable RM1x, this album embraces a raw aesthetic that Mota has been experimenting with, signifying evolution and a a departure from textures he already conquered.
It’s always good to listen to an artist we like embracing different ways of creating. And it’s fantastic when the final output is as good as this one. Notivago contains incredible amounts of good taste in its grooves, twisting and turning through a mountain of deep house, disco, jazz house and funky influences. We agree 100% with the liner notes on this record: “amidst the quiet, the essence of sound remains vibrant, resonating with simplicity and profound emotion”. Bernardo Mota’s has, for sure, so much more to deliver. For now we jack to this one on repeat. Notivago is available on Bandcamp.
