blackfilter: batuki
Francisco Espregueira
Modena, Italy's Pellegrino Mazzucchi, the percussionist, DJ, and producer behind BlackFilter, unveils his latest project: Batuki, due to drop on April 22 via Ragoo Records. Shaped by a unique upbringing, Batuki is a captivating fusion of Afro-Caribbean rhythms and futuristic jazz.
Pellegrino's mother, a Fado singer of Indo-Mozambican descent, instilled a love of music, while his brother, a DJ of Latin and World music, ignited his passion for Afro-Cuban percussion. These early influences combined with Pellegrino's experimentation with analog synths and drum machines to forge the distinctive BlackFilter sound. Batuki, named after his mother's word for drums, is a sonic journey that bridges the gap between Afro-Caribbean percussion, futuristic jazz soundscapes, and hints of electro, disco and deep house - all in all, a refreshingly unique listening experience. Available on vinyl.
