bonfim: an extended-play record of assembled sounds for different kinds of moods
Francisco Espregueira
Bonfim is the meeting point between two of Porto’s most reputable tastemakers, now releasing their first project entitled An extended-play record of assembled sounds for different kinds of moods. Pedro Tenreiro is a veteran and legendary DJ, that is in the scene since the time DJ’s were just a “small piece” of what it meant to go to a club. He is a former A&R, producer and re-edit pioneer behind projects such as Mr. Spock, Illmatic+Phaser and Dancin’ Days, returning to producing duties fifteen years later. Hugo Passos is a producer that played a key part in the city’s early hip hop scene, exploring Tenreiro’s ‘infinite’ record collection through his MPC.
Cherry picking a tree full of influences - from golden age hip hop, ‘90s House to leftfield jazzy sounds - Bonfim presents six sample based tracks, each one of them with its unique texture, representing in a perfect way the duo’s eclectic tastes. Experimental feelings are evident, as An extended-play record of assembled sounds for different kinds of moods sounds like is something that is being done in front of us. A limited edition of vinyl is available for the collectors.
