boomerang records: global sounds
Francisco Espregueira
The roster participating in Boomerang Records’ Global Sounds compilation is no short than unbelievable. On nine tracks the London-based label connects artists from around the world. With collaboration, experimentation and mixing tempos all at the heart of the album’s idea, the result is a multi-genre compilation LP, spanning jazz, broken beat and electronic. Names like Bryony Jarman-Pinto, Footshooter, Yazmin Lacey Mark de Clive-Lowe, Duke Hugh, Steve Spacek, Scrimshire (some of o sótão’s all time favorites), just to enlist a few, make Global Sounds a piece tat gathered our attention from the moment it was announced.
This project is an exciting step forward for Boomerang Records, featuring a cast that steps on the gas pedal to deliver new tracks that blend well together, although crossing many different genres. There’s a clear connection to the music movements of contemporary jazz electronica hailing from cities like London or Melbourne. Nonetheless, Global Sounds reaches beyond those places, due to the mastery of its participants. The compilation is available on digital formats via Bandcamp, but we recommend contributing for the crowdfunding initiative that aims to release the compilation in vinyl. Don’t sleep. This is an amazing sample of the music of yesterday, today, tomorrow. All in one record.
