children of zeus: the winter tape
Francisco Espregueira
Tyler Daley and Konny Kon follow up July’s acclaimed Travel Light album with a new project that dropped on christmas eve. The Winter Tape raises the question of its composition: whether its been made up of unreleased material they had lying around or was intentionally created as an album isn’t obvious at all. But the quality of the tracks makes us enjoy it as a complete, considered project. Children of Zeus are of one of the best new acts in the British soul music.
After a year that brought the duo a deserved recognition, with Travel Light being nominated as one of the best albums of 2018, The Winter Tape is a generous gift that indicates that there’s much more to come from Kon and Daley. Fitting with its title, the LP sounds out a soulful serenade for a season of long dark nights on cold streets. Polished, groovy production throughout evokes the 90’s golden era of Hip Hop and R&B.
Collaborations coming from Black Milk, KinKai or the Kamaal Williams trio, this is our late christmas present: The Winter Tape from Children Of Zeus, available for free.
