clifford brown & jeen bassa ft. ella mae sueref: samba del sol
Francisco Espregueira
Banoffee Pies Records is about to drop Samba Del Sol by Clifford Brown & Jeen Bassa ft. Ella Mae Sueref. The album is influenced by carnival and latin sounds with hip hop drums and soul roots. It expresses the influences of the duo with sounds coming from their heritage - the island of Mauritius, along the coast of Madagascar, and South America. They partner with Ella Mae Sueref and this soft Badhuism in her voice, as previously heard in the single Stop Rewind or in the album Teal along with Benaddict & Slim.
The tape was buried on a hard drive for over six years, never to be heard again. Sliding into the forgotten darkness of lost tracks and rediscovered in 2017. The production, originally just an instrumental, was then found and reignited, revamped with a vocal insert from the wonderful Ella Mae Sueref.
The 10-track album flows with headnodding drums and latin inspired sampling. Mesmerizing vocals from start to finish. The live room jams were made in smoke. We play it in smoke too. Samba Del Sol is out on the 22th of June.
