culross close: learning to let go
Francisco Espregueira
Esencia has unveiled Learning To Let Go, fourth and (maybe) final album of the Culross Close project, led by the genius of Kieron Ifill (aka K15) and his bandmates. Continuing Culross Close's tradition of music that works for both individual reflection and group listening, Learning To Let Go takes the listener on a journey through a spectrum of emotions.
The opening track, "Becoming Present," sets a serene tone with percussion and devotional elements, inviting the listener for a mindful listening of the project. The album then takes a sharp turn with "Reactive State," a high-energy track featuring pounding drums and a captivating flute melody. The contrasting moods continue with "Attachments," a hypnotic and swirling soundscape, before surrendering to the immersive interplay between drums and keys in "Surrender."
As the album progresses, the music transcends into a state of peace. "Letting Be" features beautiful string and harp arrangements alongside rhythmic percussion, showcasing the harmonious interplay of the musicians. The title track, "Letting Go," embodies the album's core theme, while the closing song, "Forward, Only," leaves the listener with a sense of confidence and optimism for the future. Following four albums and three single/EP’s, the Culross Close draws a beautiful circle of original, deep, and mindful music that we’ll come back for years and years. Available on vinyl.
