dirty bungalow: home alone
Francisco Espregueira
The pandemic clearly originated a creative wave, the result of which we’re only unveiling now. 2020 was spent mostly at home and it posed challenges and opportunities for many independent producers. Dirty Bungalow, António Almeida's alter ego, was no exception and his new album of originals, Home Alone, is the perfect soundtrack for a new and strict confinement. Launched today by the Porto-based 1980LYFERS imprint, Home Alone has the collaborations of other celebrated independent artists from the Portuguese scene: PZ, Logos (Conjunto Corona), Minus & Mr. Dolly and Carlos are an all-star cast.
Dirty Bungalow goes back in time to find his sound and aesthetic references: researching samples with which he built this collection of lo-fi and classic sounding beats, celebrating the soul, jazz and black music of past decades. It is also, and because this period make us feel this way, an artistic reaction to the global crisis we are going through. Therefore, a work that looks for the present and towards the future. Home Alone is yet another high-karat project in the current Portuguese independent music scene. 2021 will bring us more. And we will be here, listening carefully to Dirty Bungalow’s sonic adventures present in Home Alone - available in digital formats and on CD through Bandcamp.
