djeuhdjoah & lieutenant nicholson: 2+
Francisco Espregueira
DjeuhDjoah & Lieutenant Nicholson follow up on T’es qui? (2015) and Aimez Ces Airs (2019) to present a new funky trip through afro influenced electronic soul textures. 2+ is composed by 15 tracks of eclectic, soft, deep and funk, where electronic grooves are hand in hand with soul music, afro beat and bossa nova. The result is incredibly harmoniously.
Released once again by Hot Casa Records, DjeuhDjoah & Lieutenant Nicholson’s ethos adresses the love for slowness in the groovy “Pas Si Vite”, environmental issues on “Coeur béton”, social statements on “Police”, “Raie publiques” and “clic” as well as the post colonial relation between Africa and the other continents. The guests David Walters and Cool Affair add extra layers of afro-influenced rhythms in two excellent remixes. On 2+, we can also hear the swirls of Antoine Berjeaut at the trumpet and bugle, and magic keys from Florian Pellissier, two new flagships of the French jazz scene. DjeuhDjoah & Lieutenant Nicholson keep pushing the boundaries of the traditional “French song” to make it world dance. 2+ means warmness for cold days. Available on vinyl.
