All the way from the amazing city of Edinburgh, we focus our senses in a new gem of an album - one of many released by Athens Of The North, both reissuing or presenting new works. Musica Para Todos brings together the talents of For Mankind, a Pikes resident DJ and island favorite, and the label crew under the highly-acclaimed East Coast Love Affair moniker. Over eight beautifully crafted tracks they blend elements of house, dub, and weirdo dance music, drawing inspiration from influential artists like African Head Charge, Larry Heard, and Sun Ra.
The EP genre is difficult to pin down in a very positive way, delving into waves of dreamy, minimal, and almost techno-influenced synthscapes. It’s immersive and touching. You can read in the liner notes: “we also added sprinkles of influence from other oddball tracks that make up our more interesting sets. We spent hours just pulling and listening to records from all our collections and talking about music before hitting the studio”. This is reflected throughout the record, that as little bit for everyone in it. Musica Para Todos’ spirit is, possibly, exactly that. East Coast Love Affair' is the in-house band for label Athens of the North based out of Edinburgh, UK. Studio wizard Nick Moore (Linkwood) and AOTN founder Euan Fryer team up with local & International musicians, singers and writers to make a mixture of Underground Disco, House and Electronic originals done right. Their signature ‘real’ sound is created using select vintage gear they both have spent a lifetime collecting, with their analog tape machines housed in Athens of the Norths custom self build studio up in the cold north.
