future bubblers 5.0
Francisco Espregueira
This time of the year always brings us an interesting release. The Future Bubblers project has been one of the most relevant projects showcasing the ongoing talent discovery and artist development scheme focusing on unsigned talent and building audiences for new left-field music. Curated by the Gilles Peterson’s network and supported by the Arts Council England and the PRS Foundation, the compilation acts as a springboard for the musician’s careers with the cooperative model providing direct revenue to the artists by a share of the profits resulting in a sustainable income to work from. Previous Future Bubblers include artists such as Yazmin Lacey, Skinny Pelembe, MC Snowy, Forest Law and Kayla Painter to name a few.
As per usual, Future Bubblers 5.0 is a musically diverse collection of tracks, fusing genres that span across electronic, alt-r&b, alt-hip-hop, spoken word, neo-soul, jazz and beyond. The fifth installment introduces us to names like Magoya, exploring his electronic meets folk soundscape; Mark Cake, combining layered saxophone compositions; Ella Knight, highlighting her diverse vocal range; NeOne The Wonderer’s rap-infused and introspective approach; Conrad Ellis, deliveing an electronic-meets-funk vibe; Damos Room creating a dubby soundstorm; Shakira Allenyne’s reflections, led by her atmospheric vocals; Madi Saskia’s soulful, affection-filled music; and Griz-O and JSSO Project’s combination of electronic textures and rap.
Spanning just under 40 minutes, Future Bubblers 5.0 is an extremely impressive assemblage of talent who have all delivered top-shelf singles. Available both digitally and on vinyl, the compilation embodies the spirit of the musicians as well as the team behind Future Bubblers. Essential stuff.
