golden mean: through walls
Francisco Espregueira
Starting off the year with a killer release the London-based Jazz Re:freshed - one of the best platforms introducing new jazz projects in the world - presents Golden Mean, a brand new quartet formed by Tom Driessler, former bassist on the Yussef Kamaal project, the guitarist Luke Wynter of Nubiyan Twist, the killer synths from Lyle Barton and beats from Noya Rao's Matt Davies. Their debut album, Through Walls, is comprised by 5 tracks that will keep you coming back for more.
Taking their name from the mysterious calculation that has consistently cropped up throughout the study of Music, Nature, History and Math - also known as the Golden Ratio - the quartet explores trippy beats, synths, catchy hooks, solos, and uptempo grooves. In Trough Walls all the elements are proportionally pleasing, with its sound feeling as crispy as balanced. Recorded in the summer of ‘19, the project is available on high-digital formats in the usual online stores. A vinyl edition might come later.
