guts: philantropiques
Francisco Espregueira
Five albums deep into his recording career, Ibiza-based, music connouisseur of this world, Guts, builds another trip called Philantropiques, marking something radically different from his previous outputs. While his sequencing and programming are still unmistakable, his new project morphed into something of a full-on musical opus. Inspired by the vibrations of the southern hemisphere, somewhere Guts has been so well associated with over the years, the french producer sets up a brand new live band, enriched by a lot of other elements, never losing the live feel the LP creates from the second it starts.
Philantropiques is an experimental, yet sunny outing, comprising longer tracks that open up into carefully considered arrangements. The recording sessions flowed easily with Guts controlling the fluid orchestra playing around him. Afro trance, brazilian jazz funk and frantic percussion are all explored over this 13-track album. Dropping tomorrow, the three singles leading to the album, left us on a tropical mind-set. Released by Heavenly Sweetness, - vinyl available - this could be one of 2019’s unmissable records.
