joe armon-jones: turn to a clear view
Francisco Espregueira
Due to come out this week, the sophomore solo album of Joe Armon-Jones is another exhibition of his endless virtuosity on keys and on production - teaming up with long time musical-partner Maxwell Owin. Turn To A Clear View builds on the artist’s foundations - an infusion of jazz, bass-heavy dub and contemporary club culture, flourishing on r&b, hip hop and p-funk influences. The project features the talent of regular bandmates such as Oscar Jerome, Moses Boyd and Nubya Garcia, as well as guest spots from artists he’s long admired, including Georgia Anne Muldrow, Obongjayar and Jehst.
The record is the result of a meticulous approach, transmitting in sketches the diversity of the ascendant scene that surrounds him. Between his highly acclaimed solo career (following last year’s Starting Today LP) and his work with the influential Ezra Collective crew, Joe Armon-Jones is building on a supreme reputation, purely based on is talent. Turn To A Clear View drops on September 20th, through Brownswood Recordings. An unmissable project.
