joy guerrilla: the park is closed
Francisco Espregueira
Hailing from L.A., Joy Guerrilla is a duo composed by Magdalena Daniec and Adam Grab. Coming out tomorrow, their sophomore album, The Park Is Closed, in an eight-track journey that plays like the soundtrack to an archetypal hero’s journey of the West Coast, spanning the musical eras of yesterday, today and tomorrow. This project follows the spirit of the debut Skyline, from late 2018, exploring the magic vibes that are always pending in the West Coast air.
The Park Is Closed is a soulful journey that focuses on more dark, bizarre and pensive aesthetics compared to Skyline, capturing the duality that is ever-present in the scenery that inspired Joy Guerrilla. It’s a warm and effervescent new project, bustling with funky approaches to jazz music, providing an energetic sonic experience through the duo’s pulpy narrative lens. The conversation between an array of fuzzy keys and groovy basslines is mediated by a talented cast of collaborators, while the sound provokes a perfect blend of chaos and order. The Park Is Closed is available on vinyl, CD and digital formats via Joy Guerrilla's Bandcamp.
