Olindo Records is a record label hailing from London, dedicated to cover a wide variety of music for and from the soul - specializing in afro-influenced south american approaches. Their 7th release presents London-based producer and DJ Koichi Sakai, a well-known head in London music circles. In collaboration with Ghanaian percussionist and singer Afla Sackey, Wono EP sees Koichi mixing African percussion instruments and themes with synths and drum machines.
With a fresh take on Babatunde Olatunji’s original, the A side features the dancefloor hit “Jingo”. Vocals and percussion by Afla Sackey and guitar by Mao Yamada, with Koichi on synths and drum machine. On the B Side, “Wono”, the title track from Koichi’s upcoming debut LP, gets the remix treatment by Osunlade. On B2, Venezuelan producer Pocz creates a funked up, latinized version of the original, featuring a brand new bassline and jazzy synths. Koichi Sakai’s first LP will be available towards the end of 2019. Until then, Wono EP has the vibrations we were in need of. 12’’ vinyls shipping out soon.
