kx9000: 2l84me
Francisco Espregueira
Karim Ben Mustapha, also known as KX9000, has established himself as one of those producers to keep under close watch. Since 2018 he has released two EP’s on Pont Neuf Records (Trouver ‘X’ and Ultra Loisir) and one on Blaq Numbers (Kaijū & Features) - two up and coming labels rotating on deep wonky house vibes. Now he’s back with his fantastic universe of jazz-funk and disco-house, delivering a new 5-track EP entitled 2L84ME, once again via Pont Neuf Records.
Dubbed by Mixmag as “one of the most remarkable producers of the moment“, KX9000 remains faithful to his recognizable touch. 2L84ME explores a nu-jazz influenced facet of the musical palette of the Parisian producer, managing a perfect mixture of classy kicks with free-flowing jazzy chords. With the help of Tour-Maubourg, ddöve and TAOS, he presents a strong electro-jazz EP for the summer. Available on vinyl, this record might make you think that Karim comes straight out of a Japanese animated film - emulating some of the best musical textures that one can find in Hiroshi Sato’s work, for example.
