marcos valle: nova bossa nova
Francisco Espregueira
Far Out Recordings is preparing a very special release for September. Marking sixty years of Bossa Nova, and twenty years since Marcos Valle’s first release on the label, it is the time to repress Nova Bossa Nova, an era-defining classic from the Brazilian master composer. Sun-soaked tracks exploring infinite instruments and little delicate sounds, this is a brilliant work that will be, once again, available for maniac record collectors.
Originally released in 1998, Nova Bossa Nova was Marcos Valle's first album-project in more than a decade. After 1983 he resented the way the music industry had changed with commercialization and new demands, curtailing his creative freedom. During 1994 Marcos met Far Out Recordings boss Joe Davis and, eventually, this new collaborative partnership resulted in a new solo album. Throughout his astounding six-decade career, infiltrating pop, bossa nova, samba, jazz and funk, Marcos Valle has presented us with compositions that transcended the traditions and structures of bossa nova, whilst never getting far from the movement’s inherent, fundamental spirit. Marcos Valle is indeed one the very greatest and most important composers, arrangers, writers and performers in Brazil.
Twenty years since the original release, the album remains a landmark release for Far Out Recordings and Brazilian music in general. It is yet another example of Marcos Valle’s ability to transcend musical limitations and explore new musical ground, as he has done so passionately for the last sixty years. Nova Bossa Nova will be available on September 28th.
