mark de clive-lowe: dreamweavers
Francisco Espregueira
Dreamweavers is a special record for the electro-jazz heads. The master Mark de Clive-Lowe is joined by the creative partnership of bass player Andrea Lombardini and drummer Tommaso Cappellato, two Italian musicians that have been a consistent presence on Mark de Clive-Lowe’s European tours for several years now. Recorded in the summer of 2019, the vision for Dreamweavers appeared to Lombardini and Cappellato on a road trip from Italy to Switzerland. The result is an experimental take on jazz music that finds space to touch a variety of genres and inspirations.
A revered and celebrated pianist and composer, de Clive-Lowe returns to his roots with this new electro-acoustic record, reflecting on and celebrating the sounds that he grew up loving and was influenced by – from Sakamoto’s meditative melancholy and Ahmad Jamal’s soulful playfulness, to broken beat, boom bap and global rhythms. With the Italian rhythm section supporting his talent, both in the performance and production, de Clive-Lowe embraces new found freedoms on Dreamweavers. Available in vinyl, via Mother Tongue Records.
