naquil: krem de la krem ep
Francisco Espregueira
D3 Classic Edition kicks off its series with a reissue of 1996 Naquil's Krem de la Krem, a lost gem from Detroit's golden age originally released by Perception Records, a short-lived yet significant Detroit House/Techno label. It’s always a pleasure to listen and revisit these textures, grounded in a pivotal moment of discovery in music production with different genres blending and exploding everywhere.
This obscure deep house record by Naquil, real name Nathaniel Killins IV, one of the unsung heroes of that era, showcases a producer with extremely good taste who operated very much under the radar during the 1990s. The record's deep, melancholic house tracks are a testament to Detroit's rich musical heritage. Available on vinyl, courtesy of the awesome D3 Elements label - invaluable work keeping these gems alive.
