neue grafik: dalston tape vol. 1
Francisco Espregueira
Neue Grafik has evolved from a Parisian newcomer to one of London’s revered contemporary artists. Through his Neue Grafik Ensemble and the iconic Orii Jam, he has nurtured a vibrant music scene, shaping a unique sound and providing a platform for emerging artists. Last friday he added another very nice record to his impressive discography, once again partnering up with Rhythm Section (another London revered institution).
Dalston Tape Vol. 1 features a range of styles from soulful and melodic to raw and experimental. Neue Grafik’s masterful production skills are evident in every track, with intricate rhythms, lush textures, and innovative sound design. The short, punchy format of the tracks, that follow one another in a high-class mixtape/beattape format, highlights his ability to create impactful music in a concise format. And while this format is simple the content is on a very high level of musical knowledge, gathered over years of contact with talented musical minds. The "Vol. 1" suffix hints at more music to come, suggesting that these brief sketches are merely a taste of hi creativity. Available on digital, vinyl and cassette via Rhythm Section International, the EP is sure to appeal to a wide range of listeners. 15 golden nuggets to enjoy in the half spaces of life.
