nick walters & the paradox ensemble: implicate order

Francisco Espregueira

Following Awakening, from 2018, and Active Imagination, from 2019, Nick Walters & The Paradox Ensemble are back with a new album entitled Implicate Order, which drops tomorrow via Walter’s newly created label D.O.T. Records. On this record the 11-piece band continues to break the mould of big band jazz, combining spiritual and eastern jazz moods with West African rhythms and a fusion of electronics.

Walters’ compositional talents rise to the fore on this one, leading the incredible Paradox Ensemble to glory. Drawing inspiration from some of the greats, but also from the sounds of distant places and ideas. The album is punctuated by brilliant explorations of eastern mysticism, different harmonic sounds and rousing solos throughout. Nick Walters showcases once again the qualities of a great composer and bandleader. Implicate Order is out tomorrow on vinyl - the beautiful artwork is created by Lorna Robertson, delivering a Kandinsky inspired abstract representation of the 11 musicians involved.

Implicate Order is inspired by the work of theoretical physicist David Bohm and his concept of the Implicate Order, an attempt to understand the mysteries of quantum mechanics by positing the existence of a deeper or more fundamental layer of reality (in contrast to the Explicate Order of our everyday experience).
