otis sandsjö: y-otis 2
Francisco Espregueira
Linking back to Otis Sandsjö’s previous work, Y-OTIS 2, released by We Jazz, is an inviting and inspiring audio mosaic whose rhythmic approach is informed as much by hip hop and electronica as by jazz. The Berlin-based Swedish saxophonist, and his close collaborator bassist/producer Petter Eldh, explore a genre-bending, forward-looking "liquid jazz" of tomorrow, including an infinite number of details into this new project.
Y-OTIS 2 is an exploration effort, balancing ideas in a complex, but harmonious, sound identity. Its nature, delivering micro-sounds and harmonies, fuses a minimalist electronica in the background as the main elements played by Sandsjö and Eldh roam free. Everything is in place. The experiments on this one work very well, and the album’s listening might invite new incursions. Available in vinyl, via We Jazz.
