planet butter: hands down
Francisco Espregueira
It is with a kind of relaxed pleasure that we want to introduce you to the magnificent debut project from Planet Butter. Hands Down just dropped via the high-karat-underground Italian label Rivamare Records, and combines beautiful textures of hip hop, neo soul and jazz into six tracks that pause time and makes us reflect. After their first jams in the Milan's underground scene, the young quintet delivers a smooth project filled with musicality, blending a nice touch of jazz to their hopping neo-soul inclined beats.
Hands Down showcases a band that is connected to its sound. Although extremely well polished, Planet Butter conserve a very ‘live’ feeling to this project, with an instrumentation that is organic, soulful and, more than often, very groovy. From the blues-y energy of “Dive”, to the cinematic scenery created by “Only Yesterday”, passing by the subtle touch of “Guest Room” and ending with the funky “Spare Time”, Hands Down is a complete album that will surely make the contemporary jazz aficionados vibe. Planet Butter’s create the perfect soundtrack to transition to the week. Available on Bandcamp, courtesy of Rivamare Records.
Planet Butter brings togheter the skills of the rookies Dem Ruspino, Matteo Conzatti, Elia Molteni, Matteo Galimberti, Filippo Birattari.
