planetself: wanderlust e.p.
Francisco Espregueira
The Planetself duo was introduced to us a couple years back, when they released High Tide, a project that sounded strikingly familiar yet authentic in hip hop / neo-soul vibes. They followed that with a series of tasty releases and great collaborations that showcased their evolution as one of the most promising acts hailing from Australia. Composed by Inkswell and Charli Umami, Planetself just dropped the Wanderlust E.P. via Co-Operation Records, first designed in Amsterdam, in their downtime from touring in Europe.
Linking up with dutch native Kid Sublime for the production, “Wanderlust” is deep, hopeful, soulful and funky, exploring broken beat rhythms and their innovative approach to hip hop and soul music. Backed by remixes from Co-Operations own Afronaut, Sivey and Kid Sublime, the E.P. also takes us to two Planetself collaborations with Soulparlor, helping in the house leaning “Free Fallin” and hip hop soul tinged “Get On Up”. Planetself is a community vibration, encompassing influences from hip hop and soul through to the 2000s broken beat sound, all mashed up and amalgamated into a unison, perfectly displayed in Wanderlust E.P. Available digitally.
