quinn oulton: show your face ep
Francisco Espregueira
Quinn Oulton is an up and coming multi-instrumentalist, vocalist & producer based in South London. Released last friday, his new EP, Show Your Face, exhibits a raw sound, melding soaring vocals and tangled acoustic textures with abstract electronics. Quinn picked up the saxophone at a very young age, being subsequently mentored and nurtured by Julian Joseph and Soweto Kinch - two heavyweights of the UK Jazz scene. Surrounded by blues, folk and rock music at home, Quinn’s approach is a mixture of those influences with jazz and neo-soul textures. Following a self-produced EP in 2017, he joined the 2018 Red Bull Music Academy which was important in defining is creative vision, drinking inspirations from world of electronic music culture.
Following the release of the 2020 Long Gone EP, Show Your Face showcases his evolution into a more refined sound, lapidando his production skills and vocal abilities. Joined by Demae on the title-track, Quinn kicks things off with an airy jazz number, highly refined in its cadences and colours. The rest of the EP carries on the same note, with elegant arrangements that unfold softly. Available digitally via DeepMatter, Show Your Face EP is a smooth project that makes us have Quinn Oulton under close watch.
