sahala: nectar ep
Francisco Espregueira
Debuting with the reputable Tru Thoughts stamp, Manchester’s best-kept secret Sahala presents the Nectar EP - a record that fuses her versatile vocals with the more introspective spectrum of bass music conceived by Strategy. The lead single, “Bring Out The Best” meant immediate attraction for us, with 2-step meets street-soul vibes making our walls tremble on repeat.
But Nectar is a great moment all throughout its 4 tracks, opening with the jubilant “True”, with brass percussion stabs complimenting Sahala’s power-house vocal range; “Rose” takes the EP into darker territory, minimalistic beats and Sahala’s softly controlled voice creates an atmosphere of foreboding. “You” follows, with the protagonist switching it up between spoken delivery and angelic vocals while Strategy full pallet of sounds brings his producing to the forefront. It all ends with a garage influenced street-soul anthemic delivery. Nectar EP dropped today via Tru Thoughts.
