souleance: les mouches
Francisco Espregueira
The collaborative project between DJ Soulist & Fulgeance produces yet another release, via their usual ‘home’ First Word Records, entering the second decade of Souleance. Les Mouches is the expansion pack for the French duo, incorporating Vincent Choquet on synths and Guillaume Rossel on drums as part of their live outfit. The sound present in the six tracks that compose the EP is faithful to the band’s style, but with the new members Souleance’s sonic imprint becomes bigger, more realized and more formidable than ever.
Following on last year’s acclaimed French Cassette LP, the Normand-Parisian super-duo reinterprets disco sounds, latin jazz, instrumental hip hop and broken beat textures in a very varied sort of musical diet. Les Mouches - paying homage to the legendary Manhattan club that existed around the era of Studio 54 - is essentially a set of grooves marinated in nostalgia but sounding entirely current. Analogue synths, live bass, sleek cuts and intoxicating drums. Another round of sure-shot dancefloor fire now available in vinyl through First Word.
