summers sons: still nothing still
Francisco Espregueira
London's Summers Sons have been one of our favorite hip hop / jazz rap acts since they presented their Undertones debut album back in 2018. Comprised by Turt's lyrical prowess and Slim's smooth beats, they present a new project tomorrow titled Still Nothing Still, again via Melting Pot, the label that has been curating their solid discography.
While jazz influences remain, this record means a sonic and lyrical departure for the duo. Slim embraces a more electronic, trip-hop vibe, while Turt raps with a newfound urgency and vulnerability. Inspired by a 2021 epilepsy diagnosis, Turt's lyrics are his most honest and raw to date, showcasing a range of emotions from anger to sharp wit. Look out for an accompanying short film by Seb Luke-Virgo to further delve into this artistic evolution. With four successful albums under their belt and a history of impressive collaborations, Summers Sons keep providing us with unlimited head nodding, introspective moments. Still Nothing Still will be available on vinyl via Melting Pot Music.
