sweet fruity brunch: voyage i
Francisco Espregueira
Taking off towards another galaxy with Sweet Fruity Brunch’s Voyage I. The moniker behind one of the most innovating producers hailing from Europe (that is also known as Donnie Moustaki or Sweaty Fruity Ballsack), has accumulated a few dime pieces in the past few years that he now shares with us. And although he’s not bothering with a proper release we still need to take a proper time to enjoy his music.
Voyage I is, like most of his past releases, filled with countless golden details in the unorthodox approach to sampling and sound effects. It kicks off with the sweet “Moonlight”, progressing through Sweet Fruity Brunch’s spacey effects, like a jazz record lost in another galaxy. The mood changes and the speed goes up for his reinterpretation of Zhané’s “Crush”, before we delve into “M for Method” - a kind of Donnie’s Specialty, sped up and with extra elements of frenetic dance moves on top of the Wu Tang’s Clan classic. Emotions are high for “Drifting”, an anthemic deep house lullaby for late night smokers. Wrapping all up, “Take Off” is a stompy trip back to earth putting an end to tonight’s odyssey. Available for free on Bandcamp, Voyage I is best enjoyed with a lil’ bit of that green substance you may know very well…
