vetz: showroom vol. 2
Francisco Espregueira
Following up on his Showroom Vol. 1 (2019), Pedro Schvetz returns with Showroom Vol. 2, a self-released EP under the name of Vetz. Released last week, the project expands on his influences: where Showroom Vol. 1 leaned heavily into the warm, lo-fi jazz-funk/soul soundscapes of the 70s, drawing inspiration from the likes of Butcher Brown, this second installment shifts its focus towards the energy of the late 80s and early 90s. Listeners can expect a rich tapestry of sounds, with significant inspiration drawn from the post-disco/boogie era and the burgeoning r&b/new jack swing movement, creating a sonic palette that's both nostalgic and contemporary.
Vetz also weaves in threads of 90s Detroit and Chicago house, adding a layer of driving rhythms and dancefloor-ready energy to the mix. This eclectic blend of influences results in a collection of tracks that are both diverse and cohesive, showcasing his ability to traverse different genres. Yes & yes. Showroom Vol. 2 is available on Bandcamp.
