waajeed: from the dirt
Francisco Espregueira
Detroit producer Waajeed is an established name in the world of music. The first years of his production career took him in the direction of Hip Hop & Soul projects like Platinum Pied Pipers, Slum Village or Dwele. The influence of dance music on him was colossal, though. The electronic, dance side of his sound would just require a few more years to fully materialize. That process brings us his first full LP - From the Dirt has ten finely crafted and honed tracks, each with their own groove. A wonderful mix of classic and modern house sounds blended with intelligence and soul.
The album picks up where his vibrant EPs from 2017, Shango and Through It All, left off. Grounded in the Detroit-ish night patterns, From the Dirt is Waajeed’s tribute to the city, the people, and the music that raised him. Produced, arranged, and mixed entirely by Waajeed, the album demonstrates his ability to communicate with sound and rhythm.
On From the Dirt, Waajeed brings it all full circle with some of the most dynamic house music of the year, honouring the other half of his musical persona. Featuring Asante, Zo, Ideeyah, DeSean Jones, CJay Hill and Lulu, the album will make you dance late at night. No hype, no frills. Just dirt.
