xpress point: been remindin' me
Francisco Espregueira
Matthew Hayes, the bassist of Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange, ventures into new sonic territories with his solo project, Xpress Point. After a series of ambient and experimental releases, Hayes shifts his focus to more dance-oriented music, drawing inspiration from boogie, vaporwave, downtempo, and funk breaks. Across nine tracks he showcases a really high-level of production skills, taste and influences converging in a very interesting direction.
Released last friday via the Australian-Berliner-Londoner Energy Exchange Records, Been Remindin' Me ends up testifying Hayes’ versatility as a musician and producer. The EP demonstrates his ability to craft mesmerizing melodies, while also exploring the darker, more experimental side of electronic music. With its nostalgic sound and forward-thinking approach, and talented colleagues such as Allysha Joy, Finn Rees, Ziggy Zeitgeist, Lewis Mood and Joseph Batrouney, Been Remindin' Me is our suggestion for today, one that we’ll revisit for sure. Available on vinyl.
