bninjas: shake ep
Francisco Espregueira
In the ever-evolving landscape of modern house music, rising South-African star BNinjas has been providing plenty of mesmerizing deepness over the last few months. He takes us through the realms of deep house with his latest EP, Shake, released by Dealt With Records. This release reaffirms his exceptional talent and vision as he keeps providing authentic roots while pushing his art boundaries to new territories.
The EP's title track, "Shake," serves as an embodiment of genuine deep house, with sublime deep-sea keys providing the foundation for the enchanting sub-bass to work its magic. The stripped-back, phat bassline evokes the hypnotic essence of a Chez Damier b2b Kerri Chandler mix. "Days," on the other hand, offers a heavy beat that feels like it's rolling over itself, reminiscent of early Moodymann productions. Unexpected twists and a wobbly note from another dimension transform this track into a quintessential Detroit house masterpiece. Lastly, "We Could" presents a mysterious, fragmented vocal transmission against a backdrop of crackling ambiance. Cool staccato organ keys harmonize with a complimentary bassline, and the track culminates in a climactic keyboard sequence, reminiscent of a first contact with a beautiful alien world. BNinjas' Shake EP is available on Bandcamp. Don’t sleep on his previous works too. Plenty to explore.
